Though an alliance between the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) and Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), southern Illinoisans have access to the same expert care that has earned RIC the ranking of "Best Rehabilitation Hospital in America" by U.S. News & World Report every year since 1991.
Begun in 1997, this alliance has brought three physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians to the area and created a system-wide program that includes the Acute Rehabilitation Center at Herrin Hospital plus inpatient services at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and St. Joseph Memorial Hospital. Outpatient services are offered through Rehab Unlimited Facilities in Anna, Carbondale, Herrin, Murphysboro, and West Frankfort. Services offered through outpatient care include Fit For Work Industrial Rehabilitation, aquatic therapy, sports medicine and physical, occupational and speech/language therapy.
To provide leading heart care in southern Illinois, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale has an innovative partnership with a nationally ranked heart care program, Prairie Heart Institute, St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. It is this partnership that brings Prairie cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to live and work in southern Illinois communities. It is also the reason that Prairie cardiac services, such as, open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, angioplasty and stenting are now being performed locally, making it convenient for patients and their families. In addition, the Prairie heart team strives for excellence, performing better than national standards for outcomes. For cardiac care, southern Illinois residents can trust the care at Prairie Heart Institute-Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
The Southern Illinois Orthopedic Center, (SIOC), is the center for orthopedic
care in southern Illinois, housing the practices of nine orthopedic
surgeons who formed the group, Southern Orthopedic Associates. This group
partnered with Southern Illinois Healthcare to extend the scope of
orthopedic care for the residents of southern Illinois.

at Logan Park in Herrin, the group is now able to meet with patients,
diagnose their conditions, perform out-patient surgery and provide
follow-up physical therapy in one location. Opened in 2001, thousands of
patients have received convenient, expert care in this new, state of the
art facility from some of the leading orthopedic physicians in the area.
