(CARBONDALE, IL) Families in need of extra help shouldering the costs of prescriptions, transportation and lodging in times of medical need will benefit from a $5,000 donation from Wal-Mart to Southern Illinois Healthcare’s Family Friendship Fund.
“Wal-Mart believes in a philosophy of operating globally and giving back locally. We are proud to be a ‘store of the community’ for all of the communities we serve by helping to provide financial and volunteer support to community-focused organizations. We believe that every American should have access to quality healthcare and are proud to support Southern Illinois Healthcare’s Family Friendship Fund,” said Randy Slatter, regional manager of twelve Wal-Mart’s in southern Illinois.
“This grant will go a long way towards helping patients. The demands on the fund have increased over the last year, so this donation comes at a time to help people when they need it the most,” said SIH Director of Development Gene Honn.
The SIH Family Friendship Fund disbursed over $31,000 in monies to 825 individuals that received care at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro and Herrin Hospital from January – December 2007.
