There are many services that Herrin Hospital Auxiliary provide. The following is a list of assignments and responsibilities.
Greeters Desk
Hospital volunteer greeters:
- serve as host/hostess for the hospital.
- welcome each person who enters the main lobby.
- offers assistance as appropriate.
- gives hospital guests directions to departments.
- supplies patient's room numbers.
- escorts or transports patients who need help.
Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available.
Gift Garden
Those who choose to volunteer in the gift shop:
- sell cards, gifts, books and magazines.
- sell and serve coffee and snacks.
Shifts are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
This service is appreciated by both staff and visitors. It is our main source of fund raising. Over $400,000 worth of equipment and furnishings have been purchased for the hospital from income generated by the Auxiliary as well as over $13,000 in scholarship contributions.
Hospital Services
Volunteers assist throughout the hospital by:
- delivering mail.
- delivering lab reports.
- delivering documents.
- delivering equipment.
- delivering medications.
- assembling various forms used in many types of patient charts.
- assisting hospital staff as appropriate.
- transporting patients by wheelchair (after proper training).
Shifts are 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Surgery Hospitality Desk
Surgery Hospitality Desk volunteers:
- cooperate with medical and nursing staff in keeping family and friends of surgery and ICU patients informed as to when patients are in recovery, etc.
- keep coffee bar and supplies in good order.
Shifts are from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
