Demand for healthcare workers exceeds the number of qualified workers available, and all indicators predict that the need for healthcare workers will continue to grow. However, the innovative scholarship program from Southern Illinois Healthcare is designed to fill current gaps and to ensure that future needs are met as well.
The SIH Scholarship program is a multi-phase program that marries college scholarship money with work opportunities. This program is for anyone majoring in certain healthcare disciplines that has been accepted into an area college or university. You can receive money for such items as tuition, lab fees, books and educational supplies. For each academic year you accept scholarship money under the SIH program, you will be required to sign a contractual work agreement stating you will for for SIH, after graduation, in your field for each year you are on scholarship. Scholarship recipients that leave school or choose to work elsewhere will be required to repay the scholarship back to SIH as a loan with interest.

Questions & Answers
How much money will I receive?
The SIH Scholarship is available to cover items such as tuition (to an accredited college/university program), lab fees, books and educational supplies.
What obligations will I have?
Those accepted into the SIH Scholarship program must agree to work for SIH after they graduate one year (12 months) for each academic year they accept the scholarship money.
Must I attend school full-time or part-time?
Once in the SIH scholarship program, you may attend school full-time. If you are an SIH employee, you may attend school part-time.
What if there is no job available when I graduate?
While that situation is unlikely, especially as the healthcare needs of the community continue to grow, SIH would simply waive any contractual responsibility you signed and you would not have to repay the scholarship.
How do I apply?
Anyone interested in the SIH Scholarship program must complete an application packet and interview process. The application packet includes a biographical application, official transcripts, personal essays and three letters of recommendation. A selection committee will review all the information, conduct interviews, and select the scholarship recipients.
What criteria must I meet?
You must be accepted by the school you want to attend. To continue in the program, you must maintain an appropriate grade point average (GPA), which will be determined by each individual college/university program, to stay in the program. This will be monitored at the end of each college semester.
What majors may I choose from?
You may choose from the following majors: Registered Health Information Technician, Medical Lab Technician, Radiologic Technologist, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist and Surgical Technologist.
What if I leave school or work elsewhere after graduating?
Scholarship recipients who leave school or don't work for SIH after graduating will be required to repay the scholarship money back to SIH as a loan with interest, under an agreed-upon time frame.
